E-bike battery fault assessment
Lifty assesses selected electric bike battery systems for charging failure, cut-outs, connector damage, reduced range and visible faults. High-energy lithium batteries require careful diagnosis and are not opened or rebuilt without an appropriate safe process.
Stop using the battery if you notice
- Swelling, impact damage or enclosure distortion
- Unusual heat, smell, smoke or hissing
- Burnt connectors or repeated sparking
- Water ingress or severe corrosion
- A charger or battery that becomes abnormally hot
Move away from a battery showing active smoke, heat or fire risk and contact emergency services where necessary. Do not charge it indoors or attempt a DIY cell repair.
What diagnosis may cover
The charger, port, fuse, connectors, battery-management behaviour and available voltage information may be checked. Some sealed or proprietary packs must be replaced or handled by the manufacturer network.
Can every e-bike battery be rebuilt?
No. Construction, condition, certification, enclosure, electronics and safe parts availability determine whether any further work is appropriate.
Does low range always mean failed cells?
No. Temperature, tyre pressure, load, route, assist level, brakes and ageing all affect range.
