Convert a suitable bicycle to electric assistance
Lifty can assess selected conventional bicycles for compatible electric conversion components. Frame condition, brakes, wheels, gearing, battery mounting and intended use must be checked before a kit is recommended.
Compatibility assessment
- Frame and fork material, condition and dimensions
- Wheel size, axle standard and available clearance
- Brake performance and drivetrain condition
- Battery mounting space and cable routing
- Motor power, assistance cut-off and intended legal use
A conversion kit is not automatically eligible for Ireland’s Bike to Work Scheme. Current Revenue guidance is for a new qualifying bicycle and eligible equipment purchased by the employer; ask Lifty and your employer before relying on scheme eligibility.
Road-use considerations
For pedelec treatment, assistance and rated power must meet applicable legal limits. Higher-powered or throttle-led conversions may fall into a different legal category and should not be presented as ordinary public-road e-bikes.
Can every bicycle be converted?
No. Weak frames, unsuitable forks, poor brakes, incompatible axles or insufficient battery mounting can make conversion inappropriate.
Will conversion preserve the original bicycle warranty?
Not necessarily. Customers should check the bicycle and component manufacturers’ terms before modification.
