Safety is a system, not a helmet-shaped magic spell

A good helmet matters. So do visibility, speed choice, braking distance, tyre condition, route planning and secure parking.
Choose protection for the ride
Fit beats fashion
The helmet should sit level, remain stable and match the manufacturer’s size guidance. Replace it after a significant impact or when the manufacturer recommends.
Security that buys time
- Use a quality lock through the frame and a fixed object
- Lock in a visible, busy area
- Remove batteries and displays where practical
- Record serial numbers and photographs
- Use a second lock for longer stops
Marco’s three rules
- Assume nobody saw you.
- Leave enough braking room for wet paint and metal covers.
- If the lock costs less than your lunch, reconsider the lock.
