Technology is moving quickly
The first generation of electric scooters was simple. Today’s machines can include smarter battery management, regenerative braking, brighter lighting, improved suspension, connected apps, GPS integration and over-the-air updates.
E-bikes are evolving too, with manufacturers exploring automotive-inspired safety features such as rider-awareness systems and integrated cameras. Micromobility is no longer just electric. It is becoming intelligent.
What this means for Ireland
Ireland has an opportunity to learn from the successes and mistakes of other countries. The foundations of successful micromobility are straightforward: good infrastructure, clear rules, responsible retailing, safe products, rider education and proper maintenance.
