Irish scooter maintenance: rain happens, neglect is optional
By Marco Sants · Reviewed by Lifty Labs
Ireland can deliver sunshine, rain and horizontal rain before lunch. A maintenance routine protects braking, range and reliability.
Before every ride: two minutes
- Squeeze both brakes and check lever feel
- Inspect tyre pressure and visible damage
- Check stem and folding latch for movement
- Confirm lights, bell and reflectors
- Look for battery or controller warnings

Weekly
- Inflate tyres to the manufacturer’s specification
- Wipe away road grit with a damp cloth
- Check fasteners without overtightening
- Inspect brake pads, cables and discs
Battery habits
Use the correct charger, let the scooter cool before charging, avoid charging when wet and never cover the charger. For storage, follow the manufacturer’s guidance and check charge periodically. Stop using a battery that swells, smells unusual, overheats or shows physical damage.
Water warning
An IP rating means resistance under defined test conditions—not permission to ford a canal. Avoid deep water, pressure washers and charging a wet vehicle. Dry road spray promptly and book an inspection after significant ingress.
When to stop riding
- Stem or wheel play
- Reduced braking
- Cracked frame or folding parts
- Repeated electrical cut-outs
- Battery heat, damage or odour
